A lot of history and great taste go into the burgers at Louis' Lunch. As legend has it, the hamburger was born right here, in this small, inelegant building, back in 1895. Each patty is hand-shaped and slow-cooked in old, metal broilers with diced onions grilled right into the meat. The burgers are served on toast—no buns, no condiments. Only cheese or tomato, the choice is yours. The cozy wooden booths and counter have been engraved with initials and scrawled doodles over the years, giving it a warm, worn-in feel.
